GO GREEN with PAWS

WE ALL THINK a lot about how we can take better care of our planet. How we take care of our dogs can be part of the plan.

GREEN TIP #1
DID YOU KNOW that Americans throw away about 100 billion plastic bags very year? And dog owners use a lot of plastic bags. No one really knows how long it takes for plastic bags to break down in a landfill, but some say it could take 1,000 years. Or more. Even better than recycling old grocery bags, use biodegradable bags when you pick up after your dog!

GREEN TIP #2
WANT TO MAKE YOUR PUP ORGANICALLY HAPPY? When our dogs are perfect Canine Good Citizens in Central Park, they deserve some environmentally healthy treats! Try this recipe from Eco Dog:
QUICK DOG TREATS: Preheat the oven to 350. Grease a baking sheet with butter or a little oil. Combine 1 cup organic wheat germ and 2 small jars organic baby food. Mix thoroughly. Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls. Place the balls on a baking sheet and flatten them with the back of a fork. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Remove and cool on a wire rack. Variation: Try adding 1 T pureed garlic to ward off fleas or 2 T ground faxseed or flaxseed meal for a shiny coat.

“Our pets are always there for us…We want to make healthy choices when it comes to their care and feeding, choices that are also good for the planet, just as we do for ourselves.”
